Post: WFP Relief Programme: Supporting Vulnerable Households in Banaadir Region, Somalia

Supporting Families. Strengthening Resilience.

The WFP Relief Programme is a humanitarian assistance initiative aimed at addressing the critical food needs of communities in Somalia affected by conflict, displacement, natural disasters and economic hardship. In the Banaadir region, YouthLink Somalia, in partnership with Concern Worldwide and with support from the World Food Programme (WFP) Somalia, has implemented Cash-Based Transfers (CBT) to support vulnerable households in the districts of Kahda, Garasbaaley and Dayniile.

The primary objective of the programme is to help address food insecurity and reduce the risk of hunger and malnutrition among crisis-affected communities, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable households living in displacement camps on the outskirts of Mogadishu.

Through cash-based assistance, the programme enables eligible households to access food and other essential items according to their needs. This approach provides families with greater flexibility and choice while helping them cope with the economic pressures and challenges associated with displacement and limited livelihood opportunities.

The programme has reached approximately 10,000 households across Kahda, Garasbaaley and Dayniile districts in the Banaadir region, prioritising vulnerable communities facing significant humanitarian challenges. Through collaboration between WFP, Concern Worldwide and YouthLink Somalia, the intervention contributes to broader efforts to improve access to food assistance, protect household dignity and strengthen the humanitarian response to food insecurity.

By providing timely assistance to crisis-affected households, the WFP Relief Programme demonstrates the importance of coordinated humanitarian action in responding to urgent needs and supporting vulnerable displaced communities in Somalia.
